Life drawing is the best way to learn to draw accurately, as it forces you to observe the subject carefully. Drawing in proportion is essential, in all aspects of art, whether drawing or painting. I often say: "drawing is the key to painting, and measuring is the key to drawing". If you can get the basic drawing correct and in proportion, then half the problem is solved. No matter how good a painter you are, unless you can draw up your subject with confidence and accuracy, you will nearly always fail. Drawing is the key.
